In 1756, following the death of Alivardi Khan, young Shiraz-ud-Daula became the nawab of Bengal, but his claim to the throne was met with opposition from both his own family and the British. Among the major conspirators against him were Ghaseti Begum, Shawkat Jung, and Mir Jafar, all of whom had some relation to the nawab. Siraj anticipated the treachery and removed Mir Jafar, promoting Mohanlal to the position of commander instead. However, he made the mistake of later reinstating Mir Jafar as the chief of commanders. The conflict between the East India Company and the nawab began on the day of Siraj's ascension to the throne, and it eventually led to the Battle of Plassey in 1757, where Siraj was betrayed by Mir Jafar and defeated by the British.

Peasants and Tribal Movement Part 1

The Sannyasi and Faqir rebellion was a movement in India against British rule in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The rebellion was made up of sannyasis, or holy men, and faqirs, or mendicant Muslims, as well as soldiers from disbanded armies and peasants. The rebellion was sparked by British attempts to restrict the movements and label the religious mendicants as miscreants, as well as their efforts to extract as much money as possible from the population through taxes. The rebellion lasted for several decades and set the stage for future peasant uprisings against the British. It was also the backdrop for the inclusion of the national song "Vande Mataram" in the patriotic historical novel "Anandamath." The rebellion is often not given credit in official records, but it played a significant role in India's struggle for independence. #SannyasiRebellion # Faqir-Rebellion # India # British # Peasant uprisings
